Pitch-In Luncheon

On November 1, starting at 2:00 pm, three panelists will present different experiences that reflect their involvement with community service in Japan and Indiana. From these experiences we can gain a sense of the growing commitment of both Japanese and Asian Americans to address societal needs and social justice issues. It is hoped that the audience will engage in active conversations with the panelists after their initial presentations.

The panelists will be:

Besides learning about the organizations represented by the panelists, the audience will hopefully learn about why each person chose to become engaged in community service, the similarities and differences between Japan and Indy in organizing a "citizens" or grass-roots organization, and perhaps how we can encourage people to get involved with community service. Minimally, interesting insights should be gained of the "good" that exists in Japan and Indy.

Please bring a covered dish to share (salad, rice, vegetable, meat, or dessert). Drinks and table goods will be provided by Hoosier Chapter.

Directions to the Fishers Public Library at 5 Municipal Drive in Fishers: Take I-69/State Road 37 to Exit 5 (Fishers). At the top of the exit ramp, turn west on 116th Street. Continue westbound just over the railroad tracks. Turn right (north) at the Municipal Drive stoplight and follow it (a big circle) to the right. The entrance to the Library will be on your right. Go to the far ( east) end of the parking lot to access the doors nearest the meeting rooms. All the meeting rooms are along the south wall, and a sign will be posted indicating the room for JACL.

 

Annual Holiday Luncheon - Dec. 9

Come celebrate the holiday season at our annual Hoosier Chapter Christmas party! You're in for a real treat with delicious food at Ocean World Restaurant. Chicken, beef, and salmon teriyaki lunches including other Japanese food items will be served. A welcome punch, green tea, dessert, and paper goods will be provided by the chapter. Festivities begin at 12:00 noon.

Ocean World is located at 1206 West 86th Street, Indianapolis 46260 (on the north side of the street, just east of W 86th and Ditch Rd). Please send your reservation form and check payable to Hoosier JACL by November 30 to Elinor Hanasono, 13714 Smokey Ridge Drive, Carmel 46033. The Hoosier Chapter Board for 2008 will be installed. Please invite family and friends. Entertainment and holiday cheer await you!!
