It's Picnic Time!

Come one, come all, to a popular chapter event, the annual Hoosier Chapter Picnic! You won't want to miss the delicious food, fun games, and time to chat in the great outdoors.

We'll meet at 1:00pm at our usual picnic site, Eagle Creek Park, Shelter D. (see
map)

Please bring a covered dish to share (salad, rice, vegetable, meat, or dessert) with server. Cold drinks and table goods will be provided. Guests are welcome, so bring friends and family for this fun event. We are inviting JACL chapter members from Cincinnati and Dayton.

Meet Our Chapter President, Dinah Montgomery

I was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, graduated from St. Louis Park (Minnesota) High School and received my Bachelor of Music degree from the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1975 I won a position in the first violin section of the Indianapolis Symphony - a position I still hold today. Besides performing with the Orchestra I also love to play chamber music. My frequent chamber music companions are Marianne Tobias, pianist, and my husband, Jerry, who is the ISO's third horn player. I also play with the International Violin Quartet, 4 violinists from the Orchestra, and we often perform at the Arts Garden.

Outside of music, I really enjoy gardening (although I am not very successful!), trying crafts of all kinds, and Jerry and I love to cook for friends. I have an embarrassingly large collection of cookbooks which shows no signs of diminishing! My family is also a very important part of my life. My oldest son teaches 5th grade at Spring Mill School, my second son is in construction and remodeling, and our daughter just received her Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University and will be attending graduate school at Midwestern University in Chicago beginning this summer.

I have been a member of the JACL since my high school days in Minnesota. My parents were both active in the Twin Cities chapter and I was a Junior JACLer. I have many memories of mochi making days and of picnics at the JACL house! The Board of our Hoosier chapter asked me to join them a few years ago as a board member at large and then to help with Ways and Means. This year, with their immense support and encouragement, I became President, a position I am very proud and honored to hold. I look forward to getting to know all of you and to sharing our Japanese heritage!
