This Boy's Fool
This Boy's Fool was Sarah B. on vocals and Joel Conner on guitar, backing vocals, & keys. The duo had a rich, full sound, thanks to the vocal blend and Conner's instrumental skills.
It also did two distinctly different kinds of music: alt-jazz and classic soft rock.
At jazz clubs, the duo played Sade, Dido, classsics such as "The Look Of Love" and jazz versions of songs like "Route 66" while at rock venues the duo did the classic soft rock of Carole King, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Eagles, etc.
Originally Acoustic Ties, then Triple Action, a three-piece band with Travis Brandt and Anjela Conner, the group performed at Deer Creek prior to Anjela's move to Seattle. When Joel brought many of his best musician friends of the past back for a memorable birthday party, he and Susan Wyneken performed with the name This Boy's Fool as a playful take on the confusing male-female duo Everything But The Girl, doing songs in the alt-jazz vein. When Susan left, Emily MacNeill stepped in until her move to South Carolina, then Amy Jackson joined up at Corner Coffee, using the name - and the new "jester's cap" logo - to be the "jesters" that could do multiple songs, including Dylan and '60s protest songs, as jesters are traditionally allowed to do.
When Amy left to have a baby, Joel found Sarah to keep This Boy's Fool going. But with Sarah's background, TBF now has two completely different styles, and whether you need smooth jazz or classic soft rock, This Boy's Fool will fill that need any time or place.
